We believe the financially-disadvantaged kids suffer tremendously due to the inability of their families to afford after-school private English lessons. This creates an inequality and a huge gap that will be difficult for these kids to catch up in middle school, high school, and all the way through college even with all their hardest efforts. That is why the foundation believes free weekend English classes is such an essential program which the foundation must overcome all difficulties and provide!

Our free weekend English classes started in 2019 prior to COVID, was restarted in December of last year and continued until the end of the summer vacation this year.

The middle school kids are divided into two groups: Group A for 8th and 9th graders and Group B for the 7th graders.

The weekly free English classes are held once a week on Sunday afternoons.

The schedule of classes is as in the table below:

Beginner Grammar and Intermediate Grammar classes will be taught by a retired local Taiwanese high school English teacher.

We are currently looking for a foreign (or ABC) teacher to teach our Beginner Conversation and Intermediate Conversation classes.

(Substitute teacher to teach only the first two or three weeks will also be accepted before we find the weekly teacher to teach for the whole semester.)

We will be commencing our free weekend English program on September 10. Before we find our foreign instructor, the students will participate in only the grammar class. After the foundation is able to find a suitable foreign teacher, they will be able to have two classes per week!

Teaching Material for the Conversation classes:

The foundation will provide different levels of Let's Go textbooks published by Oxford for the Beginner Conversation students and the Intermediate Conversation students with teacher’s guide books for the instructor. The instructor can decide on the pace of each group according to the ability of the participants. Besides the reading material and activities in the textbooks and teacher's guide books, the instructor can incorporate his or her own material if necessary with the objective of making the classes fun and interesting for the students, in order to encourage participation and interaction.

Currently, we estimate each group will have around 3-5 students. We will have a more definite picture after seeing the turnout rate for those who had signed up by this coming Sunday. Of course the number of students might increase as more people learn about it. However, we will control to cap the number of students in each group to 8-9 students in order not to sacrifice the quality of the classes.

It's 10 minutes by walk from LongShan Temple MRT and 15 minutes walk from Ximen MRT.

Remuneration: The foundation will match and go beyond the ongoing market average hourly rate plus a little extra as incentive to compensate for fact that the classes will be on Sunday afternoons.
(NTD 1,600/hour for both weekly and substitute teachers)

As an optional additional incentive, the foundation can provide discounted housing for a studio unit next to the Daan MRT station in a high-rise with exercise facility for only NTD 15,000 per month to the instructor during the time he or she teaches for the foundation.
